GUWAHATI: The Republic Day celebrations in Assam on Sunday, January 26, were marred by four powerful grenade explosions.
Three explosions rocked Dibrugarh and one Charaideo district. In Dibrugarh district, an explosion took place at Graham Bazar and another beside a gurudwara on A T Road, both under Dibrugarh police station, said a News18 report.
The third explosion hit the oil town of Duliajan whose details are still awaited. Another explosion rocked Teok Ghat under Sonari police station of Charaideo district.
Senior officials have rushed to the explosion sites and collected splinter. Details of any casualty if any are not known immediately.
India Today quoted locals as saying that bike-borne suspected militants had lobbed a grenade and fled from the area.
"We rushed to the spot when we heard the sound of the explosion. Some people said that bike-borne miscreants had lobbed a grenade and fled from the area," said a local villager.
