NEW DELHI: Mohanlal's meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday and the photos he shared on social media has generated immense political interest and rumours that the Malayalam superstar will contest the 2019 national election as a BJP candidate from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.
The 58 year old Malayalam film star Mohanlal wrote on his facebook post, “It has been a privilege to meet our Honourable Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi ji on this auspicious day of Janmashtami.”
Mohanlal met Modi and discussed with him about his ViswaSanthi Foundation and his multifaceted social initiatives. “He has assured all support and offered to participate in the Global Malayalee Round table that can formulate futuristic solutions for a New Kerala. Hon. PMO India has also appreciated our vision to set up a Cancer care centre under ViswaSanthi Foundation to cater to the needs of the under-privileged.” Lal said in his facebook post.
A Deccan Herald report on Tuesday said the RSS was keen Mohanlal contests the Lok Sabha elections next year from Thiruvananthapuram.
The RSS is pushing for the Malayalam actor to contest as a BJP nominee and is therefore working to build a "social activist profile" for him, reported the daily.
"There is a serious discussion in the Sangh about fielding Mohanlal," a senior leader told the Deccan Herald.
The superstar had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, inviting further speculations. However, there was no discussion about his entry into politics and it was an exercise to 'build the political profile of the actor', Deccan Herald added.
“Yesterday, I had a wonderful meeting with Mohanlal Ji. His humility is endearing. His wide ranges of social service initiatives are commendable and extremely inspiring,” Modi said in his facebook post
