Andhra police to get weekly-off from today onwards

AMARAVATI: All Police personnel from the rank of constable to Inspector in Andhra Pradesh will get to avail of a weekly-off beginning on Wednesday.

The police department has expressed happiness over getting the weekly off. About, 67,804 police personnel will get the benefit of it.

“Police constables, Head Constables, Assistant Sub-Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors and Inspectors will get to avail a weekly day off under the new system”, an official statement read.

So far, there is no weekly off rule in the police department, only they are eligible for the annual holidays which include sick leaves, casual leaves, and earned leaves.

The decision was taken based on the recommendation made by a committee headed by Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Ravi Shankar Ayyanar, in tune with an assurance given by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

On June 4, Andhra DGP Gautam Sawang has formed a committee of 22 police representatives headed by ADG Ravi Shankar Ayyanar.

The committee has studied on the hurdles faced during the implementation of the weekly off.

On 10th June, the committee has met DGP Sawang at police headquarters in Mangalagiri and decided to implement weekly offs.
