Kerala’s first transgender writer ties knot

KOCHI: Transgenders in Kerala celebrated the Republic Day on Sunday witnessing the marriage of the state’s first transgender writer Heidi Saddia.

The transgender community attached much importance to the marriage since Saddia’s life partner Adharv Mohan is the foster son the state’s first married transgender couple Ishan K. Shan and Surya. Curiously Saadia is the foster daughter of a transgender makeup artist Renju Ranjimar.

The wedding, which was jointly organised by Sri Sathya Sai Orphanage Trust and Ernakulam NSS Karayogam at the TDM hall in Ernakulam, was attended by transgenders from across the state. This is the fourth transgender marriage under the Special Marriage Act in Kerala.

While Saddia is a journalist, Adharv is an accountant at a private company in Thiruvananthapuram and a native of Kerala's Haripad.

According to a report in Indian Express, a birthday celebration on November 27 last year brought the couple together. Atharv had gone to gift a cake sent by his adopted mother Surya to her friend Renju Renjimar on her birthday. There he met Renju ’s adopted daughter Heidi.

Their friendship developed when they interacted more on social media and at community events. Atharv proposed to Heidi in December last year.

“We always look for love which has been denied to us since childhood. Through this marriage we want to convey the message that we are no different from others,” said Saddia, who was ostracized by her family in Thrissur after she completed Plus II.

“I want to do MPhil and PhD in media studies. In Atharv I find the right companion,” Saddia was quoted by IE as saying.
