THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bharath Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS) chief Thushar Vellappally was arrested in United Arab Emirates' Ajman in connection with a cheque bounce case.
As per reports, Thushar was arrested after a Nasil Abdullah, Thrissur native in Ajman, filed a complaint saying that the politician failed to repay a loan of 10 million dirhams that he had borrowed.
According to the sources, Nassil Abdullah has invited Thushar Vellappally for negotiations to Ajman.
Meanwhile, he lodged a complaint against Thushar following which the police took him into custody from the hotel he was staying at.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday wrote to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and sought his intervention in the arrest.
“News channels have reported the arrest of Thushar Vellappally, vice president of Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) yogam, at Ajman in UAE. I express concern about his well-being and health while in custody. All possible help within limits of law needs to be available to him. I request your kind personal attention and intervention in this regard”, his letter reads
Thushar Vellappally was picked by the BJP to fight against Congress chief Rahul Gandhi in Kerala's Wayanad in the Lok Sabha elections.
