HYDERABAD : The world's leading taxi aggregator Uber has opened a new engineering facility in Hyderabad, its second in India. The company has hired over 40 engineers to build what it calls world-class business intelligence platforms and real time streaming for Uber globally. Spread over 18,000 square feet, the facility has come up in Kondapur in HiTec City, the IT hub here.

HYDERABAD : Telangana is on its way to becoming a power surplus state with the construction of new plants to generate additional 13,752 megawatts, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said on Wednesday. The government has fixed a target of increasing the installed generation capacity to 28,000 MW with an investment of Rs 94,000 crore.

HYDERABAD : In a move to make Hyderabad a key destination of animation, gaming and visual effects industry, the Telangana government has embarked on developing an exclusive IMAGE tower "as a one stop shop" for the sector at an investment of Rs 946 crore. The IMAGE Tower is being built by the state with the help of real estate developer Salarpuria Sattva in the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

HYDERABAD : The Telangana government has decided to develop an exclusive industrial estate and IT corridor for Muslims. The decision was taken on Monday by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at a meeting with senior officials and Muslim leaders. It was also decided to construct the Hyderabad International Islamic Cultural Convention Centre on 10 acres of land in Kokapet here. The Chief Minister directed that work on the project should commence in three weeks.

HYDERABAD : Bodies of five members of a family were found near Narsangi on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Tuesday, police said. The bodies of three women were found lying in the bushes while those of a man and a four-year-old child were recovered from a car parked off Outer Ring Road (ORR). The family hailed from Ameenpur in Sangareddy district. They had reportedly left their house on Monday.

HYDERABAD : RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group will invest Rs 200 crore in Telangana for their packaged food business, the state government said on Monday. The Group will set up their facility in Thoopran in Siddipet district over 20 acres to manufacture products under their Too Yumm and E-vita brands. The facility will employ about 1,000 people. An MoU was signed on Monday during state Information Technology and Industries Minister K.T. Rama Rao's visit to Kolkata.

The application to be developed by next rainy season will help alert people in advance so that they can reorganize their commute and work.

HYDERABAD : The Telangana government and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will work with Hexagon AB, an IT solutions provider, to set up a centre of excellence on smart manufacturing here, an official said on Friday. Hexagon, a Swedish firm providing technologies that drive productivity and quality across geospatial and industrial enterprise applications, will help develop the centre to enable Telangana take manufacturing to the next level of the value chain.

HYDERABAD : An engineering student, who was allegedly scolded by her mother, committed suicide on Thursday after posting on Instagram that she was "afraid to be happy". C. Mounika, 21, hanged herself when she was alone in her house in Suraram Colony on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The final year B.Tech student was apparently rebuked by her mother.

HYDERABAD : A team of five students from an engineering college in Telangana has been selected for the prestigious NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge. The team from SR Engineering College, Warangal, will participate in the fifth annual challenge to be held on April 12-14, 2018, in Huntsville, Alabama, US.

HYDERABAD : Farmers in Telangana will get 24-hour electricity supply from Rabi crop season next year, officials said on Wednesday. The state government is spending Rs 12,610 crore to create the necessary infrastructure for the supply, said officials. The farm sector in the new state is currently getting nine-hour free supply during daytime.

HYDERABAD : As many as 12 logistic parks will be developed around Hyderabad, Telangana's Industry Minister K.T Rama Rao said on Friday. Speaking after laying the foundation stone for two logistic parks, he said 10 more would come up around the city, which has the potential to become the logistics hub of India. He said the proposed parks would be multimodal ones, integrating air, road and rail connectivity.

Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday said the Central government's "one nation one election" plan doesn't seem possible because a majority of political parties may not agree. "It doesn't look possible because so many (parties) may not agree. HYDERABAD : Three persons were killed as heavy rains lashed Hyderabad on Monday, inundating low-lying areas and throwing normal life out of gear. Heavy downpour, accompanied by thunderstorm for over three hours in the evening, inundated roads, bringing the traffic to a grinding halt during the peak hours. Officials said it was a cloudburst over the city as some areas recorded 7 cm to 12 cm rainfall.

HYDERABAD : A trainer aircraft crashed on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Thursday but the pilot and another person on board escaped unhurt. The aircraft caught fire and was gutted after the crash near Ankireddypalli village in Keesara 'mandal' (block) of Medchal district, police said. Minutes after taking off from Hakimpet Air Force Station, the aircraft developed some technical snag and crashed in the fields.

HYDERABAD : The Telangana government on Monday began distribution of free sarees as a Bathukamma flower festival gift but it created a controversy over their alleged poor quality after women threw them away or set them on fire at some places in the state. While the government held the opposition parties responsible for the burning of sarees, police registered cases against those involved. Police in Bhongir town booked 18 persons, including a Congress leader and his wife.
