HYDERABAD : Polling was underway on Friday for the three Rajya Sabha seats in Telangana. Members of the state Legislative Assembly began casting their votes at 9 a.m. and the process will continue till 4 p.m., officials said. The counting of votes will begin at 5 p.m. and the results are likely to be announced an hour later.

HYDERABAD: A Hyderabad couple arrested for beheading baby as sacrifice .The Police on Thursday arrested the couple for beheading a baby girl as part of a human sacrifice. The ritual took place during the 'super blue blood moon' on January 31. Kerukonda Rajasekhar, a cab driver, performed the rituals along with his wife Srilatha on the advice of a 'tantrik'.

HYDERABAD: The city police arrested two officials and a teacher of a private school here today after a 14-year-old girl, who was allegedly not allowed to attend the classes and sit for an exam as she had not paid the fees, committed suicide. K Sai Deepthi, a class 9 student of the Jyothi Model School, hanged herself at her residence in the Malkajgiri area here last evening.

HYDERABAD : Telangana is on its way to becoming a power surplus state with the construction of new plants to generate additional 13,752 megawatts, Chief Minister K. HYDERABAD : In a move to make Hyderabad a key destination of animation, gaming and visual effects industry, the Telangana government has embarked on developing an exclusive IMAGE tower "as a one stop shop" for the sector at an investment of Rs 946 crore. The IMAGE Tower is being built by the state with the help of real estate developer Salarpuria Sattva in the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

HYDERABAD : Police placed Dalit writer and social activist Kancha Ilaiah under house arrest here on Saturday to stop him from leaving for Vijayawada to address a public meeting. Policemen were deployed outside his house in Tarnaka. A team from Andhra Pradesh has  conveyed to him that he will be arrested if he steps out of the house. A large number of Ilaiah's supporters gathered outside his house. One of the supporters said they were determined to leave for Vijayawada.

HYDERABAD : The mother of well-known cross-country biker Sana Iqbal, who died in a car crash here on Tuesday, has alleged that it was a "pre-planned" and "cold-blooded murder" by the latter's husband and not an accident. As dozens of mourners, including bikers, gathered at her house for the funeral procession on Wednesday, her mother Shaheen Khan told IANS that she had lodged a complaint with the police that it was "murder" by Sana's estranged husband Abdul Nadeem.

HYDERABAD : A newborn baby boy, who was abducted by a woman from the government-run Niloufer Hospital here on Sunday, has died, police said on Wednesday. The woman, who had abducted the baby after diverting his grandmother's attention, took him to Bandarupalli village in Nagarkurnool district. Police suspect the baby died of illness the same day. Police arrested K. Manjula, who identified the place where the baby was buried.

HYDERABAD : The Telangana government has decided to develop an exclusive industrial estate and IT corridor for Muslims. The decision was taken on Monday by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at a meeting with senior officials and Muslim leaders. It was also decided to construct the Hyderabad International Islamic Cultural Convention Centre on 10 acres of land in Kokapet here. The Chief Minister directed that work on the project should commence in three weeks.

HYDERABAD : Bodies of five members of a family were found near Narsangi on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Tuesday, police said. The bodies of three women were found lying in the bushes while those of a man and a four-year-old child were recovered from a car parked off Outer Ring Road (ORR). The family hailed from Ameenpur in Sangareddy district. They had reportedly left their house on Monday.

HYDERABAD : RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group will invest Rs 200 crore in Telangana for their packaged food business, the state government said on Monday. The Group will set up their facility in Thoopran in Siddipet district over 20 acres to manufacture products under their Too Yumm and E-vita brands. The facility will employ about 1,000 people. An MoU was signed on Monday during state Information Technology and Industries Minister K.T. Rama Rao's visit to Kolkata.

HYDERABAD : An engineering student, who was allegedly scolded by her mother, committed suicide on Thursday after posting on Instagram that she was "afraid to be happy". C. Mounika, 21, hanged herself when she was alone in her house in Suraram Colony on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The final year B.Tech student was apparently rebuked by her mother.

HYDERABAD : As many as 12 logistic parks will be developed around Hyderabad, Telangana's Industry Minister K.T Rama Rao said on Friday. Speaking after laying the foundation stone for two logistic parks, he said 10 more would come up around the city, which has the potential to become the logistics hub of India. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday said the Central government's "one nation one election" plan doesn't seem possible because a majority of political parties may not agree. "It doesn't look possible because so many (parties) may not agree. It's a multipolar country, not a unipolar country," he told reporters when asked about the proposal for simultaneous elections to the Parliament and state assemblies.
