With this, it has redefined the checkout experience for consumers. SAN FRANCISCO : Facebook-owned mobile messaging app WhatsApp has stopped working on smartphones that support 'BlackBerry OS', 'BlackBerry 10', 'Windows Phone 8.0' and older platforms in the New Year. "These platforms don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future," a spokesperson wrote in a support note on the company's website.

It was restored in two hours. At midnight, a large spike was seen in the number of reports that the messaging service was suffering outages in India, Japan, Britain, Barbados, Panama, South Africa, Spain and Qatar, The Mirror reported.

LONDON: Google has updated its review policies according to which people are now banned from reviewing their former place of work negatively on its business tool. The move will also make more accurate the reviews that people post on Google My Business — a tool behind the rating that appears on-screen when you carry out search for a business using the search engine or its maps functions.

SAN FRANCISCO : Facebook has apologised after an investigation exposed inconsistencies by moderators in removing offensive posts reported by the social network's users.
The investigation reported by ProPublica this week showed that in one case Facebook censors, called content reviewers, approved a picture of a corpse with the statement "the only good muslim is a f...... dead one" was while another post stating "death to the Muslims!!!" was removed.

NEW DELHI: Facebook has begun testing a feature with a set of new users in India where they are being asked to enter names as per their Aadhaar details.

The social media giant, however, is not asking new users to give their Aadhaar number but just the name as written on their Aadhaar cards.

Entering the name of an actor for example would randomly generate wallpaper images of that actor and would also display related news stories about them over the image. According to the company's annual diversity report only about a third of its employees are women. The Cupertino-based iPhone maker's annual "Inclusion & Diversity Report" said, as of July 2017, only 32 per cent of its workforce were women, which is the same level as it was in 2016.

SAN FRANCISCO : Google is planning to start blocking annoying redirect advertisements in Chrome, and the plan will reportedly roll out in three parts in 2018. "Following on from features like Chrome's pop-up blocker and autoplay protections, over the next few releases we'll be rolling out three new protections designed to give users all the web has to offer, but without many of these types of unwanted behaviours," Google Chrome Developer Relations team wrote in blog post late on Wednesday.

LONDON : A fake and possibly malicious version of Facebook-owned WhatsApp was found lurking on Google Play Store as "Update WhatsApp Messenger" with developer name as 'WhatsApp Inc*'. When IANS checked it on the Play Store, we found the app has been downloaded up to 5,000 times. There is another version under the same name which has a million downloads. The original WhatsApp has 1 billion downloads.

NEW DELHI : Google is the most attractive Internet brand in India, followed by online retailer Amazon, Facebook and Flipkart, a new report said on Wednesday. According to "Most Attractive Brands Report 2017" by brands insight company TRA Research, the search engine giant was leading the category in 2015 and fell by a rank last year.  "However, it has regained its position in the Internet category with a big leap in its overall rankings from 2016," it added.
